After few little dissappointments, I had decided that nothing could prevent me from starting my project and that Madrid, my beloved Madrid, would be my blank canvas and would also grant me that voucher for a sense of belonging that is usually distributed at the entrance of this city, and that I missed so often during my travels around the world. When I left the portal (one of those picturesque, trompe-l'oeuvres
from where nobody is expected to come out) I ran with my camera to record the most authentic views in Madrid. I wanted to honor the icons of our city using all possible light variations that enhances our façades and its murals; I wanted to find those perfect frames in which historical buildings are crowned by neon lights or postmodern sculptures; and above all, I wanted to capture people with my camera, many people, doing everything they naturally used to do. It was about illustrating the authenticity of the city, so I needed rather select material, those types of images that evoke a particularity, a way of being, a unique feeling ... Usual rites that are not undecipherable enigmas, but rather are inviting anyone observing to become a participant and enjoy it. Oh, I knew that soon would take place the summer 'verbena'
festival and that there would be showcased excellent material. Having spent a large part of the day thinking well about what I needed for this project, realized that I was late for my appointment with my grandma at her house to the other side of the river, so I had to run back again, stopping for a moment to buy those typical Madrid’s sweets that she likes so much, the ones from that old confectionery shop in the corner of the square... she likes to feel the authentic!
